On March 2, 2022, Corsican nationalist militant Yvan Colonna was beaten to death by a radicalized Islamist in the gymnasium of Arles high-security prison. Twenty-five years earlier, the assassination of Claude Érignac had been carried out by the commando unit to which this same Colonna belonged. Corsica finds itself once again caught in a cycle of tragedy. In 1998, following the death of a prefect who embodied the French state, the island had taken to the streets to protest against the murder. A quarter of a century later, the younger generation erupts. Yvan Colonna becomes a martyr, and the demonstrations that follow his death trigger a new round of talks with Paris, where a parliamentary debate on the island’s autonomy is set to open the coming June. Through the fate of a clandestine militant in the armed struggle, the mini-series COLONNA, A CORSICAN TRAGEDY (3×45′) tells, through the voices of the protagonists of this story, 60 years of misunderstanding between Corsica and Paris.
